A report in a national newspaper suggested North End were interested in a January move for the 32-year-old front man.

However, PNE sources say Evans is not a player who has been on the radar in the build-up to the opening of the transfer window .

Having just turned 32, that would see him fall outside of the club's usual age bracket when signing a player.

Before Christmas, Fleetwood manager Joey Barton revealed Evans would be leaving the Highbury Stadium outfit.

Barton told Radio Lancashire at the time: "There's been multiple infractions.

"We always try to give a bit of leeway but it's just run its course. There has to be a change of scenery for him."

Evans has scored seven goals for Fleetwood this season and 37 in total during his stay with him - initially on loan and then after making a full-time move.

His last appearance for Fleetwood was on December 12 against Swindon.
