Preston North End summer transfer offer for Cardiff City star comes to light
The front man has proven to be a smart signing for the Welsh club
Preston North End tabled a summer offer for Cardiff City striker Youssef Salech, according to reports.
Wales Online suggest that the Lilywhites saw a bid swiftly rejected by the relegated Bluebirds last transfer window - one which saw Paul Heckingbottom add 12 new players to his squad at Deepdale.
Among those, forwards Michael Smith (free), Daniel Jebbison (loan) and Lewis Dobbin (loan) arrived in PR1. It appears PNE did eye a permanent striker swoop, though - a cut-price move for Salech after Cardiff dropped out of the Championship.
Signed in January, for a reported £3million from IK Sirius in Sweden, the Dane netted eight goals in 20 league appearances. It wasn’t enough to keep the Bluebirds up but Salech stayed on board for their League One campaign.
He is joint top scorer in the third tier with 12 goals; in total Salech has chipped in with 22 goals, and five assists, across 55 appearances for Cardiff. Wales Online report that calls came from Championship clubs in the summer.
Their report continues: ‘With Preston North End tabling a tentative offer that was quickly dismissed by Cardiff, such was the derisory nature of the bid. In hindsight, that decision has proven to be an outstanding piece of business.’
