Last week, the Lilywhites were credited with loan interest in the Aston Villa full-back - who impressed while on loan with Swindon Town. Munroe made 27 appearances for the high flying League Two side, scoring twice.

He was recalled on Monday, though, as a permanent exit from the Premier League club looms. Leyton Orient were linked with Munroe at the same time as Preston, with Bristol City said to have lodged a bid in the region of £350,000.

According to reports, though, it’s Boro who’ve won the race for his signature. The £300,000 deal for the 20-year-old left-back will include ‘large sell-on fee’, according to BBC Sport.

In other transfer news, a player linked with PNE during the summer transfer window could be on the move from Chelsea.

North End were linked with a late summer swoop for David Datro Fofana, but nothing ever materialised.

The Ivorian saw a move to Charlton Athletic collapse at the final hour and went on to join Turkish club Fatih Karagümrük, in mid-September.

Having scored five goals for the Süper Lig outfit, Fofana is now said to be of interest to Celtic, Royal Antwerp and Derby County.

According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are ‘working on a permanent exit’ for the player this month.
