The young midfielders will return to Preston North End after their respective spells with the Irish club. Nelson spent the entire campaign with Cork while Kamara was snapped up in late July.

In a post on X this week, Cork said: ‘We can confirm that Freddie Anderson, Kitt Nelson and Kaedyn Kamara have departed the club, returning to their parent clubs - Stoke City & Preston North End following the conclusion of their loan spells.

‘We would like to thank them all for their contributions during their time at City, and we wish each of them the very best of luck going forward.’

Nelson made 37 appearances across all competitions - 31 of those starts - with six goals scored and one assisted. He is under contract at Deepdale until 2028, having penned a three-year deal prior to the move.

Kamara - tied down until 2027 - got 14 games under his belt and scored one one occasion. That strike came during Cork’s journey to the FAI Cup final, with Kamara on the score sheet in third round win over Waterford.

Cork’s league campaign proved to be a miserable one, with relegation suffered after collecting 24 points from 36 matches. Their road to the cup final was a memorable one, albeit it ended in 2-0 defeat to Shamrock Rovers.

Gerard Nash’s side had gone close through ex-PNE striker Sean Maguire, but were reduced to ten-men just before half-time. Former Preston youngster Harry Nevin was the man given his marching orders, after a dangerous challenge. Nelson was an unused substitute while Kamara was introduced on 70 minutes.

Post-match, Kamara reflected: “It was a great experience. We have got a lot of young lads in the squad, so it is just experience. You don’t get days like this a lot, do you?”
