Preston North End striker Graham Burke scored a stunning goal playing for loan club Shamrock Rovers on Tuesday night.

Burke netted with a shot from the half-way line in Rovers' 2-0 win over Derry City at the Brandywell Stadium in a League of Ireland clash.

Collecting the ball 20 yards inside his own half, Burke moved forward and as he stepped into the Derry half, spotted the hosts' goalkeeper off his line and let fly with a left-foot shot which sailed into the net.

The 27-year-old has been on loan at Shamrock Rovers from PNE since July 2019.

It's a loan deal which has been renewed a couple of times and this one runs until June when his North End contract finishes.

Burke has penned a pre-contract agreement to join the Tallaght outfit on a permanent basis in the summer.

Preston signed him from Shamrock Rovers for £250,000 in June 2018. He made eight starts and seven substitute appearances for PNE, scoring twice.

He was loaned out to Gillingham in January 2019 and after returning to Deepdale to feature in pre-season in the summer of that year, then struck the loan deal to return to Ireland.

Burke's time on loan has been successful, with him helping Rovers win the League of Ireland title last season.

Speaking about Burke's long-range goal, Rovers manager Stephen Bradley said: "You would go a long way to beat that in terms of goal of the season.

"He's a top, top player and an Irish international for a reason. He showed real quality; his awareness was so quick to execute it."
