Preston North End skipper Alan Browne fails to get suspension reduced for his red card at Middlesbrough

Preston North End have failed in their bid to get Alan Browne a reduced suspension after his red card against Middlesbrough.

Browne was sent-off in the 36th minute of the 2-0 defeat at the Riverside Stadium for kicking out at Boro midfielder Sam Morsy.

He retaliated after being caught twice in the head and face by Morsy's arm as they tussled in midfield.

North End didn't appeal against the red card but asked the FA to consider cutting the standard three-match ban.

They argued missing three games was a 'clearly excessive' punishment when taking into consideration Morsy's actions before it.

On Thursday, that was rejected by a disciplinary panel and Browne will now miss Saturday's Deepdale clash with Luton Town and the Easter matches against Norwich City and Swansea City.
