Preston North End were beaten 0-1 by Sheffield Wednesday at Deepdale - in the final match of the calendar year.
Here are our player ratings, with Marvin Johnson scoring the winner for the Owls.
5. Andrew Hughes - 5
Played as more of a left back again and was tasked with linking up with Liam Millar and crossing himself. Blew hot and cold over the piece. | CameraSport - Dave Howarth
6. Ali McCann - 5.5
Kept it tidy enough in midfield, without really hurting Wednesday. The effort and bite was there as always. | CameraSport - Dave Howarth
7. Duane Holmes - 6
Operated on the right, with PNE in a similar shape to Boxing Day. Picked up some pockets and had a couple of mazy runs, but couldn't provide that spark. Played 57 minutes. | CameraSport - Dave Howarth
8. Ben Whiteman - 6
Started in the same, advanced role as Boxing Day, then shifted deeper to get on the ball and play - soon after Wednesday's goal. Switched on tactically in some moments but struggled to have a real impact. | CameraSport - Dave Howarth
