Chub Akpom opened the scoring in the first half before Cameron Archer added two more in the second half and Marcus Forss made it four in second half stoppage time.
Just before North End conceded the fourth, Bambo Diaby picked up a second yellow card and was sent off.
It was a bad day for the football but a good day for PNE fans who celebrated their annual Gentry Day, with 1,700 fans loudly backing their side throughout.
Unfortunately, the football did not match the backing, and this is how we rated the players on the day.

9. Alvaro Fernandez - 6
Couldn't get in the game and was relatively quiet going forward, although he was involved in every decent attack PNE had. Still young, still learning. Photo: CameraSport - Lee Parker

10. Alan Browne - 5
The attacking midfielders have my sympathies, they were neither here nor there. The skipper was not sitting on Boro's two midfielders or on their backline. The position just didn't work on the day which made his life much harder. Photo: CameraSport - Lee Parker

11. Daniel Johnson - 5
Like with Browne, Johnson was played in a position that didn't allow him to do much. Photo: CameraSport - Lee Parker

12. Tom Cannon - 6
He couldn't do much in the game as PNE could not get themselves out of their own half. Still, he nearly scored but for an excellent save from Zack Steffen and carved a chance out for himself in the first half. Photo: CameraSport - Lee Parker
