Preston North End links with Fleetwood striker Ched Evans resurface

Preston North End are again being linked with Fleetwood Town striker Ched Evans, amid talk of a January transfer window switch to Deepdale.

Last week the Lilywhites distanced themselves from media reports which suggested 32-year-old Evans was on the radar.

However, the stance appears to have changed since, with them certainly now having an interest in the Welshman's availability.

Fleetwood boss Joey Barton announced before Christmas that Evans was no longer wanted by him at Highbury Stadium due to 'his discipline and his behaviour'.

While those comments made it look like the striker would leave immediately, Evans remains on the payroll at Fleetwood, is under contract for the rest of the season and they would want a fee for him.

His fee and wages would be within reach of North End should they choose to take this further.

Evans' background would of course make a move for him controversial and that is something PNE will have to think long and hard about.

Some Preston fans have been vocal on social media about their displeasure over the links to him.

From a football point of view, Evans hasn't played at Championship level since March 2018, that during his second spell with Sheffield United.

He joined Fleetwood in July 2018, spending a season on loan with them before signing permanently in August 2019.
