Here are our six talking points from Preston North End’s 3-0 defeat to Leicester City on Wednesday night.
5. Ruled out goal
Ben Woodburn had the ball in the net for Preston in the second half but it was chalked off, with the referee blowing his whistle well before his effort headed in. Lowe was somewhat puzzled by the decision post-match, though. “I don’t know what was up with Ben’s goal,” said Lowe. “The ref said it was a shirt pull, but it’s not. If anything, it’s a foul on his ankle but definitely not a shirt pull. So, disappointed in that, because you just never know. If we’d have got one back, you just never know in football. But at 3-0 it’s definitely game over.”
6. Milutin’s evening and little helper
The Montenegrin started his fifth successive game and had to put in some selfless work up there for Preston. Osmajic found himself in some promising positions first half, with Leicester conceding cheaply and the number 28 having the opportunity to ask questions. He brought others into the game in spells and won some free-kicks for his team, but a goal scoring opportunity never came along. Osmajic was then replaced by Will Keane in the second half. It would’ve been good to see the two strikers partner each other, but the deadline day recruit has played a lot of football of late and perhaps Ipswich was in the manager’s mind at that point. Osmajic should improve as his understanding of the language develops. In the first half, we saw Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile - North End’s 17-year-old academy prospect - run off the bench and out to the technical area to translate for Osmajic and Lowe!
