Preston North End have a quiet end to the first part of the transfer window as Rangers fail to follow-up interest in Daniel Johnson

Last night’s 11pm deadline was for international deals to be completed, with attention now turning to the domestic window which runs until a week on Friday (October 16).

From PNE’s point of view, only Rangers’ interest in Daniel Johnson had the potential to have a bearing on the end of the first part of the window.

However, the Ibrox outfit didn't follow-up an enquiry which they made a month ago.

That had come in the days leading-up to the start of the season and did have an unsettling affect for a time.

Rangers offered just £1.5m for Johnson who was North End’s top scorer and player of the year in the 2019/20 campaign.

Not surprisingly that offer was knocked back and there was no second bid - Rangers moving on to other targets.

Johnson, 27, has not featured in PNE’s four league games to date.

He sat out the opening-day defeat to Swansea, returning to feature as a substitute in the Carabao Cup victory against Derby – a game in which he scored the winner from the penalty spot.

A groin injury suffered in training has subsequently kept him sidelined but Johnson did return to training last week.

North End will now look to try and keep hold of their key players until the end of the domestic window.

That 11 days extra trading tagged on to the end of the official UEFA window was agreed between the Premier League and EFL.

Lilywhites centre-back Ben Davies has attracted the interest of Bournemouth and Sheffield United.

Bournemouth offered £3m for Davies, a bid which was turned down, and the Blades have Davies on a shortlist of potential targets to cover the loss of Jack O'Connell to a knee injury.

Davies, Johnson, Alan Browne and Ben Pearson are among four players in the last nine months of their current contracts at Deepdale.

It is those players who PNE supporters will be most keen to see signed up on longer deals, although there has been no progress on that front.

The next 11 days could also shape the Preston future of David Nugent.

He’s been allowed to look for a new club as PNE created room in the squad.

It is a while since Nugent was told he could look elsewhere but nothing has come to fruition yet.

On the incoming front, Emil Riis arrived from Danish club Randers FC last week for £1.2m.

He’s the one signing so far in this window and unless someone is sold, things are likely to stay that way.

Riis made his debut as a substitute at Brentford. The striker has linked-up with the Denmark Under-21 squad in the international break.
