News leaked out on Tuesday that there had been a positive test but North End held back on commenting until the EFL released the full results of tests in the Championship and League Two on Wednesday evening.

It is their second positive test, striker Jayden Stockley having done so last week.

PNE have not named the second person due to medical confidentiality.

Like Stockley, the individual will self-isolate for seven days.

Wednesday night's statement read: "Preston North End can confirm that an individual has tested positive for Covid-19 in the latest round of tests, undertaken as part of the return to training protocols.

"The person had received negative results in all his previous tests, but undertook his latest swab on Monday of this week, which has now provided a positive result.

"Respecting the individual’s medical confidentiality, they will not be named and will now undertake a period of isolation before they return to the training ground.

"The club have conducted 186 tests on players and staff at the Springfields training ground so far and will undertake another round before training on Thursday."

The EFL said of the 1,094 tests of players and staff in the Championship it had carried out in the latest batch of testing, nine had come back positive and came from six clubs.

In League Two, none of the 16 tests were positive. Testing is not being done currently in League One.
