Match Report: Preston North End 2-1 Hearts - Browne comes off the bench to sink ...

Ben Woodburn opened the scoring against the side he spent last season on loan with, before Peter Haring equalised from the spot, and Alan Browne came off the bench to score the winner.

North End deserved their win and created some decent chances without always looking threatening.

Lowe felt it was a good showing from his side against strong opposition.

He said: “I thought it was a fantatstic game of football. I thought they were fantastic, they applied themselves well.

"I was really pleased with the outcome. There is some stuff that we can do a bit better but I say to the group all the time, the good stuff I expect, the not so good stuff is what the training ground is for. I'm really pleased.

"It was a really organised performance against a good side that are going to be in Europe in a couple of weeks, Robbie Neilson has done a fantastic job there and they play the right way.

"We had to be patient and solid in the build up. We moved the ball side to side. We didn't make loads of chances but in the turnovers we could have capitalised a bit more.”

Woodburn scored his second in pre-season so far with a coolly taken finish into the corner before setting up captain Browne’s winner later on in the game.

Lowe has been impressed by the Welshman so far but maintains that minutes are the most important things right now.

He said: “He took his goal really well, he could have had a couple, his first touch was a bit too big in the first half.

"That's what he's given since he's come through the door, he's got that resilience, he's got that know-how of when to jump and when not to jump. He finds good pockets to receive the ball in.

"I was having a bit of a joke with Alan Browne about his goal, but we were making that change anyway.

"We felt that Ali had done himself proud in terms of playing 65 minutes and we wanted to get more minutes into Browney.

"He found himself in a good position and I thought he took a bit too long but it creeped in.

"It's good for the fans that we won the game but in pre-season it is all about performances, analysing the game and getting minutes into the lads.”
