Reports emerged on Tuesday morning that the Dane was of interest to fellow Championship side Middlesbrough, who were prepared to part with a decent chunk of money in order to secure his services.

PNE put out a statement on Tuesday saying that they were yet to receive any acceptable offers for any of their players.

Riis was named on the bench for the game on Tuesday night against Rotherham United, that ended 0-0, but that came as no surprise as he had not started the last two games.

He did come off the bench however and looked a threat in the half an hour he played, even hitting the post.

Lowe said: “The club have put a statement out for the right reasons but listen, people have a price. Everyone in the footballing world has a price.

"None of my players are for sale unless their valuation meets the valuation of the club and myself. That is for any player, let alone Emil Riis.

"He's a good kid, he came on on Tuesday and could have scored, he had a couple of chances.

"He wasn't picked for tactical reasons, not performance related.”

The PNE boss understands that rumours are a part of football and was accepting of the situation.

Unless Middlesbrough, or any clubs interested in a North End player, pay up however, Lowe is happy with every single one of his charges and relaxed about the situation.

With Brad Potts hitting the crossbar against Rotherham, and nearly netting his second stunner in as many games, the Preston boss also joked about losing the wing back.

He said: “How many things get linked? It's football, isn't it?

"When someone scores 20-plus goals of course there's going to be people potentially wanting to sign players or speaking about other players.

"If Pottsy had scored the goal against Rotherham I probably would have lost him to Newcastle!

"It's football, there are rumours and speculation but there's no way it interferes with any of my players.

“It can be a good thing but it could be a bit of a hindrance. You see things and you're wondering who's said it and where it's come from.

"I don't look at it as it being a good thing. If someone wants to pick up thje phone and tell you they want to pay x amount of money for a player then they have to do that.

"Until then, everyone is my player and they're not going anywhere.”
