Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan makes surprise admission after Preston North End defeat
PNE continued their impressive run of form in the Championship with a 2-1 win over Swansea City on Wednesday evening.
Alan Sheehan is adamant Swansea City create enough chances to claim all three points against PNE on Wednesday.
And the Swans boss has vented his frustrations after the Welsh outfit’s disappointing run of form continued in the Championship.
A stunning 30-yard effort from Thierry Small and Milutin Osmajic’s second-half strike was the difference in Lancashire, with the Lilywhites claiming their third successive triumph.
It was a hard-fought victory, though, with Swansea having clear opportunities of their own and amassed 18 shots throughout the contest.
Despite Eom Ji-sung netting a late consultation, Paul Heckingbottom’s men were able to hold onto the three points, which moved them up to fourth in the table.
For the Welsh outfit, the defeat now leaves them 17th, having won just one of their last six league matches.
And Sheehan is adamant his side shot themselves in the foot at Deepdale and was insistent that his troops did enough to earn a victory.
Alan Sheehan’s Swansea admission after PNE defeat
Speaking to BBC Radio Wales, the Swans head coach said: ‘We started the game off and then they scored a worldie from 30-yards out right into the top corner. You then give yourself a mountain to climb.
‘I think we responded well, we limited them to nearly nothing really for the rest of the half. But we couldn’t put the ball in the net, which is the long way around it.
‘We started the second half and we’re in their half with a set piece then one long ball, it bounced and it’s 2-0. We tried to get a bit more impetus and we had a few more opportunities in the second half to create that, got the one goal but couldn’t get another.
‘It’s disappointing because you come here, have 18 shots, command a lot of the game, which doesn’t really happen, but I understand that.
‘They'll be delighted with the win but we need to find a way of closing those margins. We’re shooting ourselves in the foot slightly. We were in an attacking area looking to score and then 10 seconds later, one long ball, don’t defend it and the striker gets his body in the way.
‘It’s disappointing and then you go 2-0 down. It can go two ways, you can either go under or keep going.
The lads kept going but we’re not scoring enough goals at the moment. The last two games, we could’ve come away with six points and be in a totally different position.
‘That’s the margins in this league and we’ve come out with one point and we’re very disappointed. It’s that final bit.
‘Scoring goals in this league, you have to find different ways of doing it and we didn’t find the net enough. Their keeper made a couple of good saves but from 18 shots you want to have more. It didn’t happen. Very disappointed and very frustrated again.’

Swansea City’s disappointing run after PNE defeat
Swansea are now on a disappointing run of just one win in six Championship matches, which has seen them slump down the table.
And having picked up just one point in their previous three league contests, Sheehan is well aware of the trouble his side are currently in.
‘I think it's been a tough block [since the October international break].
‘We didn't play well against Southampton. We had 10 men for an hour against QPR. We beat Norwich and then in the last two games, we have gone away to top-10 teams at the moment and come away with one point.
‘We should be coming away with a lot more than that, I think if everybody's being fair. I am very frustrated.’
