The draw for the opening stage of the competition will take place at 2-30pm live on Sky Sports News, following the release of the Championship fixture list at 9am earlier that day.

There will be a total of 35 ties taking place in the first round of the competition, with games scheduled for the week commencing August 8th.

Relegated Burnley, Watford and Norwich City — and the Premier League Clubs that are not competing in Europe — will join the competition in the second round.

Holders Liverpool, who overcame Chelsea in last season’s final at Wembley Stadium, will join in round three along with the other top flight teams competing in Europe next season.

North End have prevailed in seven of their last 10 ties in the EFL Cup, reaching the fourth round in successive seasons. The Lilywhites’ runs in the competition were halted by Brighton and Hove Albion at Deepdale in 2020 and then Jurgen Klopp’s Champions League finalists in October.
