Victory saw them finish in 13th place – the same as last season – with 64 points which was three more than the 2020/21 campaign.
Alan Browne opened the scoring, with Emil Riis’ shot deflected in by Boro’s Dael Fry.
Riis scored twice in the second half, the first one a fine chip over the keeper from the edge of the box, the second a penalty after Paddy McNair had handled Cameron Archer’s shot on the line.
Here are the PNE player ratings from the game.
13. Mikey O'Neill 7
The teenager replaced Emil Riis for the last eight minutes and in that time created a chance for Ali McCann which he couldn't quite put away. O'Neill has plenty of promise which hopefully we'll get to see more of next season. Photo: CameraSport - Mick Walker
14. Ryan Ledson 6
A late arrival as PNE's third sub, Ledson's first touch was to take a corner which Huntington headed just over. Great to see him back ahead of schedule after his knee operation. Photo: CameraSport - Rob Newell
