Jordan Storey and Ched Evans found the net either side of half-time, with North End keeping another clean sheet - a fourth on the spin.
Victory in their final home game of the season moved the Lilywhites up to 13th place in the table.
Here are the player ratings from the game, with centre-back Storey the starman.
5. Sepp van den Berg 8
The teenager ran Storey close for the starman award. So assured at right wing-back and had an early scoring chance at the other end. Photo: Camerasport
6. Ben Whiteman 7
Decent display in midfield and won more battles than he lost. Second-half booking hindered him a touch. Photo: Camerasport
7. Ryan Ledson 7
The midfielder put over the corner which led to the first goal, with his work rate in the engine room impressive. Photo: Camerasport
8. Greg Cunningham 7
Strong throughout on North End's left flank. Got forward plenty of times in the first half and defended solidly. Photo: Camerasport
