‘Flexible’ Bournemouth will cause PNE problems

Preston North End boss Alex Neil believes a key strength of Bournemouth’s this season is their flexibility.

The two clubs meet in the league tonight for the first time since February 2013, although they have played twice in the League Cup in 2015 and 2016.

Bournemouth came down from the Premier League in the summer after five years in the top flight.

Neil said: “The one you notice about Bournemouth is how flexible they can be. They have played three or four systems in the last few games and can fluctuate from one to the other quite seamlessly."

PNE face a second side to be relegated from the Premier League this week, following on from Watford on Saturday.

Like Watford, Bournemouth boast a lot of talent that played for them in the top flight and have also made a strong start to the season, sitting one point and place above Watford and a point and place off top spot.

Alex Neil will at least have one full back of sorts to choose from this evening, with Alan Browne now available following a one match ban.

Though not ideal to bring him out of his natural midfield position, Neil does have faith in him at right back.

PNE Starting XI: Rudd, Browne, Bauer, Davies, Rafferty, Ledson, Pearson, Sinclair, Johnson, Barkhuizen, Maguire.

PNE Subs: Ripley, Huntington, Storey, Bayliss, Harrop, Potts, Holland-Wilkinson, Riis, Stockley.

It’s likely it’ll be back to the usual 4-2-3-1 for PNE this evening, Alan Browne and Joe Rafferty coming into the side.

Jordan Storey, Emil Riis and Brad Potts all miss out, with Ryan Ledson restored to the starting XI alongside the two full backs.

An occasion last time

Tonight’s game will be the second time that Alex Neil has managed against Bournemouth, the first time came as Norwich manager and was his first game in English football as a manager, back in January 2015.

We’re off at the Vitality!

Alan Browne collides with Riquelme in the area and the Cherries claim for a spot kick.

The referee waves it away.

A fairly even opening so far.
