The PNE midfielder is just one game away from making 250 appearances for the Lilywhites and almost as impressive as that feat, he will be the fourth in the current PNE squad to reach the milestone.

The 28-year-old signed for North End six years ago, arriving in January of the season that they were promoted via the play-offs under Simon Grayson

Since his switch from Aston Villa for just £50,000, Johnson has established himself as a key player under both Grayson and Alex Neil.

He has hit the headlines a lot in his last 18 months at the club.

After a scintillating campaign in 2019/20, he then entered the final year of his contract and it was unclear whether he would sign on again.

In the end, ‘DJ’ committed to PNE for another two-and-a-half years which will take his time at the club past eight years.

Fellow contract concern Alan Browne is another of the four seasoned North Enders, with Paul Gallagher and Paul Huntington rounding out the list.

The next game skipper Browne plays will take him to joint 30th in the all-time appearance list at Deepdale, with 284.

Huntington is currently 25th on the list with 304 games to his name and Gallagher ranks highest amongst the current crop – his 309 appearances ranking him 23rd.

The 36-year-old is also one appearance away from 550 in the Football League.
