Jordan Storey’s EXCLUSIVE Preston North End column: We’ll need to be at our Sunday best

It’s Sunday football for us this weekend when we face Brentford at their new stadium and we know we are in for a tough test from a very good side.

After the trips to Griffin Park, it will seem a bit strange going to their new place but hopefully we will get some better fortune and results there.

It’s always nice to play at a new ground, one to tick off the list, but the game being behind closed doors takes something away.

Brentford have lost Ollie Watkins since last season – he was sold to Aston Villa for a huge fee in the summer.

Their squad is still full of very good players though, and we will need to be at our best to come away with a good result.

Having played against Watkins a couple of times, I know from experience what a good player he is and I wasn’t surprised to see him get a move to the Premier League.

Any striker who gets 26 goals in the Championship like he did last year is going to attract Premier League interest and get a move.

He is so sharp in the box and never switches off. He’s hard to pick up and is a natural finisher.

Watkins will finish from anywhere – in the box or from the edge.

I think the total fee he moved to Villa for was £33m which shows how well he did.

We need a good result at Brentford to take into the international break.

It has been something of a mixed start to the season in terms of our results.

We did okay in the Carabao Cup and got to the third round but we are still looking for our first win in the Championship. It is still early days in terms of the league, with us only having played three times – there are many more games and points to play for.

But the sooner we start picking up points on a regular basis and string together some good results, the better it will be for everyone.

We are confident that when the first win comes along, more will quickly follow. The schedule has been a busy one since we came back, with a lot of games fitted in to make up for the later start to
the season.

It will be just as busy after the international break with midweek games all the way through.

During the international break we will be moving in to our new training ground at Euxton.

I’ve not seen it yet but I’m told it has great facilities.
I live in the Buckshaw area so it will be a shorter drive in for me in the morning.

A decent training ground is important because as a footballer, that is where you spend most of your time.

We are at Deepdale every other Saturday and some midweeks for matches but day to day we are doing our work at the training ground.

Springfields where we are at the moment is a
decent place. But if Euxton has better facilities, that can only benefit us.

You want the best
pitches and gym facilities and it’s exciting that we are moving.

When players are thinking of joining a club, they want to see where they will be working for the vast majority of the time.

So that will be something which the club will have had in mind when they decided to move there.
