The midfielder put pen to paper on a 12-month deal on Thursday.

It was the fifth contract Gallagher has signed since becoming a full-time North End player in 2015.

Him and PNE have been content to agree shorter term deals on a regular basis, rather than the longer deals younger players might be offered.

Gallagher spent from the end of October 2013 to May 2015 on loan at PNE from Leicester City.

He signed permanently in June 2015, penning a two-year contract shortly after Preston’s promotion to the Championship.

In September 2016, Gallagher signed another contract until the summer of 2018.

At the conclusion of that, he put pen to paper on a one-year deal, then in January 2019 Gallagher agreed terms on the contract which ran out this summer.

Since June he was on a short extension which covered the season having to run into the summer because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

How Gallagher is used this season, whether it will be more as cover and for experience around the dressing room rather than being a regular selection, it is certain he will hit the 300-game mark for PNE.

The 35-year-old only needs to make three more appearances to reach that particular milestone.

It was in September 2007 that he made the first of those, when on loan from Blackburn Rovers.

He came back with more experience under his belt nearly seven years ago and hasn’t looked back.
