Former Preston North End boss Simon Grayson backs Tom Barkhuizen over red card decision

Former Preston North End manager Simon Grayson has backed Tom Barkhuizen in respect of the red card he got in the defeat to Stoke City.

Barkhuizen was sent-off in the 22nd minute of the 1-0 defeat at Deepdale for a challenge on Morgan Fox.

North End have submitted an appeal to the FA and a verdict is expected on Monday afternoon.

Grayson, who was PNE boss when Barkhuizen was signed from Morecambe in November 2016, spoke in support on the winger when he was a guest pundit on EFL on Quest.

On the red card, Grayson said: "There are two players going for a 50/50. Tom Barkhuizen slipped and just stepped into Morgan Fox.

"He’s not that type of player, he’s not gone in and gone over the top. I think he was seriously unfortunate here to be sent off.

“The red card made it really difficult for Preston after that."
