In the meantime, record numbers of football fans have been taking to Football Manager to get their fix. For a bit of fun, we've fired up the popular management sim and sent the game into the future to have a peek at who Preston are predicted to sign over the next three transfer windows.
9. Hakeeb Adelakun - Bristol City - 700k
The summer of 2021 continues, with David Moyes now at the helm. The club sign yet another winger in Adelakun, who joins after a pretty underwhelming season with the Robins. | Getty
10. Roderick Miranda - Free transfer
Moyesy isn't messing around, and brings in the rock-solid centre-back to sort out their defence. He had an exceptional 2020/21 season at Ipswich Town, and began his career with Benfica. | Getty
11. Aiden O'Brien - Millwall - 1.8 million
After a fair amount of squad turnover, the Republic of Ireland international joins as an extra option on the left wing. His stats aren't all that, but that 15/20 work rate attribute should come in handy. | Getty
12. James Bree - Free transfer
Let go by Aston Villa, Bree isn't a free agent for long and makes the move to Deepdale. It looks to be a good piece of business, and the ex-Barnsley right-back is handed the number three shirt. | Getty
