Alex Neil's men suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of in-form Cardiff City at the weekend, and are now 10 points adrift of the play-off places.

By contrast, a run of four straight victories has helped the R’s to march up the table in recent weeks, and an impressive win over promotion-chasing Bournemouth on Saturday allowed them to leapfrog the Lilywhites into 13th.

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s clash at Deepdale, Prutton backed Mark Warburton’s men to keep their eye-catching run of form going.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he the pundit said: “I've previously mentioned how Preston are lacking consistency and that doesn't look as though it will change any time soon.

"The heavy defeat to Cardiff at the weekend left them a considerable distance off the top six and no doubt dealt a blow to morale, too.

“I have to congratulate Mark Warburton for the way he's guided QPR back to winning ways.

"Rangers are currently on a run of four straight wins for the first time since August-September 2019 and I think they will make it five here, which is something they haven't done since October 2004.”

Prutton predicts a 2-1 defeat for Preston.

North End took all three points when the two sides met earlier in the season, with Daniel Johnson and Scott Sinclair both scoring from the penalty spot to wrap up the win.

Neil’s men did lose both of their clashes against QPR last season, however, including a 3-1 defeat at Deepdale.
