LIVE: PNE vs Barnsley
One to savour
Last season’s 5-1 victory over the Tykes was only North End’s fourth win in their eleven visits to Deepdale this century.
Barnsley won have won five with two draws.
Familiar foe
Liam Lindsay will line up against his former club this afternoon, having helped Barnsley to promotion into the Championship.
He played 90 times for the Tykes and scored three times before moving to Stoke City, who he joined PNE on loan from.
One PNE change
Frankie McAvoy has made just one change this afternoon, Tom Barkhuizen moves from wing back to striker as Greg Cunningham takes the place of Sean Maguire.
Barnsley line up...
Barnsley Starting XI: Collins, Solbauer, Helik, Andersen, Brittain, Mowatt, Palmer, Styles, Chaplin, Woodrow, Dike.
Barnsley subs: Walton, Williams, Morris, Sibbick, Oduor, Halme, Adeboyejo, Moon, Thompson.
PNE Starting XI: Iversen, van den Berg, Storey, Lindsay, Hughes, Cunningham, Browne, Whiteman, Ledson, Barkhuizen, Evans.
PNE subs: Hudson, Bayliss, Riis, Molumby, Huntington, Maguire, Sinclair, Gordon, Potts.
A decade of waiting
The Tykes are looking for their first league double over PNE since the 2010-11 season.
A rare occasion
A PNE win this afternoon would mean home wins for both sides in this fixture this season, the last time that happened was 70 years ago.
Preston North End hope Barnsley's visit is the last without fans inside Deepdale
Preston North End will complete a full season at Deepdale without fans when they face Barnsley tomorrow.
It is an unwanted landmark to say the least, all 23 home Championship games played behind closed doors.
Hopefully this will be the last game with the ground empty, with things closer to being back to normal for the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
North End interim head coach Frankie McAvoy has thanked the PNE fans for showing their support in other ways during the enforced absence.
It is getting on for 14 months since Deepdale’s turnstiles last clicked.
McAvoy said: “Supporters make the game. Football is not the same when the fans aren’t there.
“It’s been really difficult throughout the world with Covid-19 and the most important thing is people’s safety.”
