The 39-year-old Scot’s reign was brought to a close on Sunday after the previous day’s 1-0 home defeat by Luton, the club’s third in succession and eighth in 12 league games.
Here we remember five of Alex Neil' s most memorable games as PNE manager, and five he'd probably rather forget.
9. PNE 0 Blackburn 3 November 24, 2020:
Derby misery for Preston as Blackburn out-footballed them on the night. A tame surrender.
10. Wycombe 1 PNE 0: March 13, 2021
The defeat to bottom club Wycombe looked a narrow one on paper but there was a bigger gulf on the day. Time was starting to run out for Neil.
11. PNE 0 Luton 1 March 20, 2021
The nail in the coffin for Alex Neil as Luton became the 10th side to win at Deepdale in the Championship this season.
