Grimshaw was recalled from a loan spell at Motherwell and returned to United this week after making 14 appearances in the Scottish Premier division.

After North End’s 2-1 victory over Bristol City PNE boss Grayson confirmed mounting speculation that the Burnley born ‘versatile’ midfielder is on his way to Deepdale - subject to a medical.

And Grayson could not hide his delight.

He said: “He has agreed personal terms.

“Liam has a medical in the morning (Wednesday) which we expect him to pass.

“He will be down with the group in the next couple of days.

“He is a young lad that I know and he comes from a fantastic background at Manchester United.

“Liam has first team experience playing in Scotland.

“He is a versatile player who can play at right back, anywhere across the back four and in the midfield.

“We want young players who are hungry for success and want to further their careers with us.

“I am delighted that we have got him.”

The news comes just a day after North End also snapped up former England U-18 player Grimshaw’s fellow young midfielder Ben Pearson from the Red Devils.
