The traditional festive fixture was cancelled across the Football League in 2021 due to a rise in Covid-19 cases, but there are no such problems of that nature this year.
North End certainly have mixed form when it comes to games on December 26, with only one win in their last six Boxing Day outings.
Here is how they have performed:
5. Preston North End 1-4 Leeds United (2016)
Boxing Day 2016 was certainly one to forget for Preston, as they were defeated 4-1 by Leeds United at Deepdale. Jermaine Beckford was sent off three minutes after coming on against his old club, with Kemar Roofe, Hadi Sacko, Souleymane Doukara and Pablo Hernandez all scoring for the visitors. Meanwhile, Marnick Vermijl claimed a consolation for North End. Photo: CameraSport - Richard Martin-Roberts
6. Huddersfield Town 3-1 Preston North End (2015)
Preston faced this year’s Boxing Day opponents Huddersfield Town back in 2015, and were defeated 3-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium. Nahki Wells claimed a brace for the home side, while Emyr Huws was on the scoresheet as well. A 94th minute Adam Reach strike was nothing more than a consolation. Photo: CameraSport - Stephen White
