PNE victory pleases Snodin

Their 4-1 win at the Globe Arena saw Callum Robinson twice on target, with Ben Pringle and Jordan Hugill also on the scoresheet.

Pringle’s 25-yard strike was top quality, with him leaving a Shrimps defender on the floor before scoring with a shot which touched the inside of the post before going in.

Snodin told the Evening Post: “It was a very good test for us, our defenders had to defend and the forward players had a good night.

“Morecambe were very attacking, played 4-2-4 almost and it was good to have to defend against that.

“There was a good tempo to the game and the boys deserve a lot of credit.

“While you cannot read too much into pre-season results, a win is always nice and capped off a very good performance.

“We have been doing a lot of work on our attacking play to try and improve on last season’s goals tally.

“During pre-season we have been trying to get the lads to express themselves in that last third of the pitch.

“We did that last night, there were two great team goals and two great individual goals.

“Ben Pringle’s goal was a fantastic strike, the lad has got a wand of a left foot.

“This season it will be great to use his football brain and that left foot of his to get some assists and score a few goals.

“What was pleasing was that we kept things going in the second half.

“After playing well in the first half in friendly games and making a few changes, it can be difficult to get going again in the second half.

“But we kept the tempo high and scored two more goals.”

Robinson was on the scoresheet for the first time since his summer move from Aston Villa.

He opened the scoring with a tap-in from Hugill’s cross then wrapped-up the victory with a good finish from just inside the box.

Snodin said: “That is what we want to see from Callum, we want him up that end of the pitch, getting hold of the ball and taking people on.

“He needs to find that consistency on a weekly basis, make life hard for defenders.”

North End rotated their squad last night, many of the players who started having been on the bench against Stoke last Saturday.

Joe Garner, Paul Gallagher, Jermaine Beckford, Anders Lindegaard, Daniel Johnson, Greg Cunningham Simon Makienok and Anders Lindegaard got the night off.

Defender Paul Huntington was replaced in the second half by Tom Clarke, soon after getting a knock on his right shoulder.

Alan Browne also had to come off late on after getting a bang on the head.

Snodin said: “Hunts is fine, he was due to be replaced by Clarkey anyway after an hour.

“Browney got a bang on the head so he came off, that was just a precaution.”
