PNE ace Browne keeps feet on the ground

The midfielder headed PNE’s 92nd-minute winner last Saturday, his second goal of the campaign.

But with there being several selection options available to North End boss Simon Grayson in midfield, Browne is taking nothing for granted when it comes to this weekend’s visit to Molineux.

“There are a few lads in there pushing for places so you’ve got to be playing well,” said Browne.

“People have said to me a few times that I need to make sure I cement my place but I think it’s hard to do that.

“You look at the Huddersfield game when the gaffer was able to bring on John Welsh and Daniel Johnson.

“Myself and Paul Gallagher had started in midfield, while there was also Neil Kilkenny on the bench.

“Ben Pearson was serving a suspension but will be back after the Wolves game, so that shows you what the competition for places is like.”

The introduction of Welsh from the bench last week was to prove instrumental in Browne being in the right place to head the winner.

Said Browne: “When John came on I was pushed further up the pitch.

“The gaffer saw what was going on and changed the shape in midfield.

“I don’t think I would have been that far up the pitch to score the goal had the change not been made.

“Obviously I was very pleased to score the goal. I think I’m quite good in the air and Calum Woods put a great cross in for me – as soon as it left his foot, I knew it would land on my head.

“I think I’m quite good in the air so I was confident of putting it away.

“Hopefully I can push on and score a few more before the end of the season.

“If I score it is nice personally but the important thing is the team doing well and putting more points on the board.

“We are going well and I think we have surprised a few people with where we are in the table.

“Maybe they did not expect us to be as far up as we are.

“We will continue to work hard over the next few months and get as high up the division as we possibly can.”
