Joel Senior’s injury-time strike earned the Shrimps a third successive away win, making it one defeat in seven League Two matches.

They reached the 20-point mark for the season after just 12 games, leaving them 10th in the table and six points behind second-placed Notts County with two games in hand.

It is a better start than the one they made during the promotion-winning season of 2020/21 and one that Adams is hoping to build on over the coming weeks and months.

No qualms over contract status

He said: “It is a good place to be, but you never really know how the season is going to go over the full 46 games.

“What I do know is that we have put a very good squad together and we will have to add to that in January to make us even more competitive.

“What we do have is a group of players who have shown they can score goals and can compete against the best teams in this league and have done really well so far.

“The fact we have five players getting international recognition for five different countries shows that we have some really good players here.

“They are also getting great experience and learning all the time.

“Saturday was a really tough game but it was a great learning experience for our younger players too.

“They are probably not used to facing a barrage of long balls, long throw-ins and corner kicks like they were on Saturday but they came through it really well.

“You don’t get that style of play at academy football, so it was great experience for a lot of the lads and will stand them in good stead for the next few weeks.”

Next up for Adams’ players is tonight’s match against Tranmere Rovers at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium (7.45pm).

It’s the first of back-to-back home games with AFC Wimbledon making the trip on Saturday.

Tonight’s visitors are fourth-bottom of the division and only out of the relegation spots on goal difference.

They are looking to bounce back after three consecutive defeats in league and cup competitions.
