Morecambe's players are challenged to be more efficient in attack

The Shrimps are scheduled to face Bradford City tonight (7pm), having had a free weekend after a frozen pitch saw the postponement of last Saturday’s home game against Scunthorpe United, which has been rearranged for Tuesday, April 13 (6.30pm)..

It means the Morecambe squad will have had a week between matches, having last played when they drew 1-1 at Bolton Wanderers last Tuesday.

The result was one which perhaps would have left the Shrimps’ players with mixed feelings.

The upside was their performance at Bolton and the way they fought back for a point through Brad Lyons’ late equaliser to climb into sixth place in the table.

However, they could also have had a feeling of what might have been given they had numerous attempts at goal and only had Lyons’ effort to show for it.

With League Two an especially tight division this year, the need to take opportunities when they come along is arguably at its most pressing.

Adams said: “To be fair, we have got ourselves into a really good position.

“We have to be more clinical. If we were more clinical, we would probably be top of the league.

“However, we’ve still got points on the board, we’re in the top six and we have 19 games to go.”

Though the postponement of last Saturday’s game might have been a disappointment, it offered the players a break at a busy time of the season.

They are due to play every Tuesday and Saturday until mid-March, though it seems likely the manager will resist any temptation to tweak his line-up from game to game despite that hectic schedule.

“There are a lot of games still to be played by some teams,” Adams said.

“We have got Saturday-Tuesday for a good period of time and other teams are having to play a lot of games.

“I don’t see squad rotation coming into play but you never know.

“What we have got is a strong squad but I’d like to see a consistency to the team selection as we have done lately.

“However, as we have shown on Tuesday night (at Bolton), we are capable of changing things around when we need to and we still had a very good bench.”
