Morecambe boss Derek Adams says Freddie Price is reaping the rewards of his hard work in training.
The teenager has found himself in the limelight recently, having set up the equaliser and impressed in last weekend’s draw against Stevenage.
Then, he capped his first start for the Shrimps with their fourth goal in the 4-0 Papa John’s Trophy group stage victory against Manchester United’s U21s at the Mazuma Stadium in midweek.
Having previously mooted the possibility of Price going out on loan to a non-league club to play week in week out, Adams has involved the teenager to great effect of late.
He could have had a hat-trick against United’s youngsters, only to be denied twice by keeper Paul Woolston.
Adams said: “I’m delighted for him, he’s a young lad who works really hard in training.
“He’s been around the first team squad, he’s been on the bench and come off the bench.
“Now he’s had his first start and he’s shown the quality he has.
“I’m not one for giving young players opportunities if they don’t deserve it – but he deserves to be in the team and playing.”
