The 17-year-old made his league debut for the Shrimps in their 3-1 defeat at Carlisle United on Tuesday evening.

The teenager came off the bench with 11 minutes remaining, replacing John O’Sullivan as the Shrimps chased the game at Brunton Park.

It wasn’t his first taste of senior football, having also come off the bench in Morecambe’s EFL Trophy group stage losses against Rochdale and Salford City.

However, a combination of injuries and players in self-isolation limiting Adams’ options meant Price was handed an opportunity to impress.

“He can play anywhere across the front three and he’s done well in training,” Adams said.

“I thought ‘let’s get him on, we’re chasing the game.’ He’s a strong runner, he can run in behind and he’s got an eye for goal.

“The most important thing is he gets some game time.”

Prior to the closing of the transfer window, Adams had mooted the possibility of Price going out on loan to play senior football on a weekly basis.

That remains the ambition, even if the Shrimps’ injury list means it won’t happen in the short term.

Adams said: “The plan is eventually to get him out on loan and playing 90 minutes but at this moment in time, I see him as part of the squad and someone who can come on and affect the game.

“He did well for the time he was on the other night, and with the players out injured or self-isolating, it’s great exposure for him.”
