Six draws and a victory in their last eight outings see the Shrimps 20th in the table with four games of the campaign remaining.
They may not be mathematically safe just yet but their points advantage and much better goal difference mean it would take an extraordinary run of results for them to finish in the bottom two.
Their on-pitch battles have been set against a backdrop of off-field issues including the club’s ownership, training facilities and problems with the Globe Arena pitch.
“We want to finish as strongly as we can,” said Bentley ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Crewe Alexandra.

“It has been a long, hard slog of a season and it’s been very difficult in a lot of aspects.
“This club needs investment as it’s been a difficult couple of years.
“We’ve struggled to compete financially – we’re at the bottom of the league with that and average attendances.
“We have no real training facilities. We’ve had to use Wigan Athletic a couple of times and I can’t thank their boss Paul Cook enough for that.
“I can’t thank Lancaster and Morecambe College enough with regards to using their training facilities but, as I’ve said before, we have a big heart and a big group of lads.
“They work hard and the fans who come week in, week out, have got behind us.
“We’re in a decent position and it’ll take an unbelievable series of results now for us to be caught.
“However, we don’t want to run the clock down until the end of the season, we want to finish as high as we can.”
