Morecambe pay the price for lapses in concentration

Morecambe boss Ashvir Singh Johal was once again left to lament defensive failings as his side shipped another four goals in their defeat at York City.

The Shrimps lost 4-2 at the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday, having twice led the in-form National League high-fliers through Miguel Azeez and Ben Tollitt.

However, they failed to keep their advantage as they conceded three second-half goals which gave York the points.

Malachi Fagan-Walcott scored York’s first equaliser with half-time approaching, after which Ollie Banks levelled on the hour.

Alex Hunt then gave York the lead before Ryan Fallowfield wrapped up victory in added time, moments after Azeez was sent off.

Johal said: “York are probably the best team we have come up against this year and we matched them – and were even the better team in parts of the game – but we can’t score two goals away from home and come away with not even a point.

“I was really disappointed in the manner we conceded the goals.

“We have become a lot more solid and resilient from a structural point of view, but individual lapses of concentration cost us.

“We showed again that we are a good team with good players, but the mistakes are stopping us from getting points.

“The last four games, we have played well and should have had more points than we have but mistakes in every game have cost us.”

Defeat keeps the Shrimps second-bottom of the National League table, three points from safety ahead of their game in hand against Brackley Town on Tuesday evening.
