Derek Adams’ players have drawn their last three League Two outings with Exeter City, Stevenage and Scunthorpe United to leave them 10th in the table.

Those draws are part of a six-game unbeaten run in league and cup as they travel to face a Salford side who are level on points but two places above them on goal difference.

It is the second time the two teams have met this season with Salford having won the Papa John’s Trophy group-stage encounter at the end of September.

Morecambe’s point at Scunthorpe on Saturday came courtesy of a stoppage-time goal from Aaron Wildig, who admitted there was a feeling of what might have been come full-time.

“The overlying thought from the changing room is we’re actually disappointed,” he said afterwards.

“The game was there for us, especially at the start of the second half.

“I thought there was only one team really pushing. I felt like they were time wasting early on in the second half, just settling for a point.

“We showed good character and I think if the game maybe goes on for another five minutes, I think there was only one team that was looking to win the game.

“It’s an away point but I think we’re disappointed not to take three.”

Wildig’s goal was his fourth of the season and the seventh in his last 20 appearances for the club.

The 28-year-old acknowledged the onus is on him to keep contributing goals from the centre of midfield, especially on days when things might not be going to plan elsewhere.

“I’ve been playing in League Two for a fair few years now and you’re going to get those games,” Wildig said.

“I like to think I’m a bit of a technical player and I’ve got to find a way to affect it.

“That might be running off midfield or running in behind and, luckily, I’ve managed to get on the end of a ball late on.

“I’ve said I’ve got to do more of that. This season, I’ve got four now in about 10,12 games – something like that – so hopefully I can kick on and get a few more.”
