The Shrimps earned a third straight victory with a 3-0 win, making it 11 goals in a week after previously scoring four against both Scunthorpe United and Oldham Athletic.

Cole Stockton’s 13th of the season - and fourth in his last five matches - opened the scoring with Yann Songo’o and Luke Waterfall’s own goal completing victory.

Results elsewhere meant they stayed fourth in League Two, one point behind Bolton Wanderers who visit the Mazuma Stadium on Saturday.

“Tonight was never going to be easy,” Adams said afterwards.

“Grimsby came off a very good win at home to Bolton on Saturday but tonight was difficult for Grimsby because we were very good.

“We were very good in shape. Also, when we pass the ball and get behind, we are going to create chances.

“Cole Stockton was magnificent. I thought he was unplayable in the first half.

“They made changes in the second half to make it more difficult for us.

“They had nothing to lose at that time, they were 2-0 down and they played a lot of long balls to (James) Hanson and (Lenell) John-Lewis, which they do and you’ve got to deal with it - but our players were strong.

“On the night, we’ve got to be delighted with a 3-0 victory and another three points.”

John O’Sullivan’s hamstring injury sustained against Oldham at the weekend meant teenager Freddie Price was handed his first league start for the Shrimps.

The 18-year-old played a little more than an hour and, in that time, impressed the Morecambe coaching staff.

Adams said: “He played in the way that we wanted to play.

“He was going to run out of steam at some point because that’s the nature of the game.

“It wasn’t an easy game for him to come into but he’s shown glimpses of what he does in training and his work rate is always fantastic.”
