The Shrimps had looked down and out when they trailed to Brandon Thomas-Asante’s goal going into five minutes of added time.

However, Carlos Mendes Gomes brought them level before Aaron Wildig snatched the latest of winners to give them an unlikely three points.

Victory keeps the Shrimps fourth in the League Two table but results elsewhere mean they are only three points off top spot with a third of the season remaining.

Morecambe manager Derek Adams saw his side claim victory

Adams said: “We started the game very well. We changed formation, took a risk and matched Salford all over the pitch.

“It worked well for us because we limited Salford to very few opportunities while we won turnovers and caused Salford problems.

“The (Salford) goal was a poor goal from our point of view, but going into the second half, we took the game to Salford and created a number of good chances through Cole Stockton and Carlos Mendes Gomes.

“They should score but don’t and then we leave it late in the game where Carlos and Aaron Wildig get the goals for us.”

It looked like being one of those evenings for the Shrimps when Stockton and Mendes Gomes missed chances going into the last 10 minutes.

Nevertheless, Mendes Gomes bundled home the equaliser before Wildig diverted Toumani Diagouraga’s shot into the net.

Those goals were the latest examples of the Shrimps leaving it late this season to score priceless goals.

“We score a lot of second-half goals,” Adams said.

“They keep on going, they never know when to stop and they train very well.

“I think their fitness levels and their desire to win a football match is there.”
