Morecambe boss Jim Bentley: Summer holidays still a long way away

To many observers The Shrimps’ season is drifting to a conclusion ahead of the game against Plymouth Argyle at the Globe Arena on Good Friday.

But despite being 13 points clear of the bottom two with nine games to play Bentley maintains his players have plenty to play for.

He said: “What I won’t have is anyone ever saying that we’re already on our holidays.

“Those types of quotes that we’ve done enough and this and that.

“Our position is not secure, there’s still work to be done and I’m the kind of person who wants to win every game.

“I’ll put that onto the players. We want to finish the season strongly like we did last year.

“We need to be competitive, give it our all and put in good performances.

“While people are willing to pay to come and watch you that’s the least you can do.”

Argyle have been at the sharp end of League 2 since the opening day of the season but have dropped out of the automatic promotion places after a patchy run of form.

Bentley, whose side have won just one of their last 12 in League 2, said: “They’re a big club who were doing well but have tailed off a little bit and dropped out of the automatic positions.

“But they’re a good side with good players and they’ll be well backed.

“They beat us down there comfortably in the end but hopefully this weekend we can get a little bit of payback.

“Performance-wise we’ve been doing okay and hopefully it’ll be more of the same on Saturday.

“We just need that little bit of luck that every team needs to get a victory.

“Hopefully there will be a decent crowd on, I’m sure they’ll travel in good numbers. It should be a good occasion.”

Chris Doyle is fit to return after recovering from a knee injury with Andy Parrish also available again after the birth of his son.

Adam Dugdale is still recovering from a foot problem however while Barry Roche will serve his one-game suspension after his red card at Leyton Oreint.

Manchester United Kieran O’Hara is set to make his home debut having been the star man after coming off the bench to replace Roche.

Bentley said: “He was excellent. He’s a young lads of 19 who is finding his way and learning his trade.

“He did extremely well against Leyton Orient and we hope he won’t be called upon too much but if he is he’ll be more than ready.”
