The Shrimps were given a helping hand by Jordan Turnbull’s own goal 18 minutes from time as they won 1-0 at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

Adams felt his side were worthy winners as the victory means they sit only a point off the play-off positions – and six behind second-placed Notts County with two games in hand.

He said: “Tranmere are a really good side who should be one of the best teams in this league but, tonight, we were able to get the better of them.

“We had some really good openings in the match and should really have gone ahead in the first half with some really good football, with Tom Bloxham outstanding.

“It was a great team performance overall to get us the win. We had to make changes but everyone that came in showed great character and the team work ethic and the opportunities we created, we should have won the game by a greater margin.

“Their keeper (Luke McGee) was outstanding with unbelievable saves and kept them in the match and we could have won by a greater margin.

“It was also really good to keep the clean sheet and put ourselves into a fantastic position in the league.”

On a less positive note, Adams revealed that goalkeeper Stuart Moore was set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in last weekend’s victory over Sutton United.

Donald Love will also need to be assessed before the weekend, having been forced to leave the field after just seven minutes of Tuesday night’s win.

The manager explained: “Stuart is going to see a consultant to see the full extent of his injury.

“We are not sure how long it will be at this moment but he certainly won’t be fit for the weekend.

“Donald picked up a nasty cut to his foot that required eight stitches, that leaves him a worry for the visit of AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.”
