The Shrimps extended their unbeaten home record to nine matches as Carlos Mendes-Gomes’ late header cancelled out Josh Gordon’s first-half goal for the visitors.

However, the main talking point came on 87 minutes when Aaron Wildig was pulled back inside the area by visiting defender Dan Scarr.

Wildig opted to stay on his feet rather than go down and saw his shot saved, only for Morecambe to be incensed that the official had failed to give them a spot-kick.

For good measure, Adams was then given a red card by the referee for his reaction to the decision.

Adams said: “Aaron Wildig got himself onto a through ball, he’s getting held back by the player.

“He keeps himself on his feet because he wants to try and score the goal.

“If I’m being perfectly honest, he should have gone down - it would have been a penalty and a sending off but he’s wanted to get that goal. The referee should have seen that and given a penalty kick.

“After that, there’s another with Liam McAlinden who gets held back. I got sent off at the end but that’s more in frustration with the referee.

“I don’t know why he made the decision he made. It was difficult to understand when you see it from our angle.

“Everyone believes it was a sending off and penalty kick but he didn’t want to make that decision for some reason.”
