Preston North End midfielder Alan Browne has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract at Deepdale.

It is the second time the Republic of Ireland Under-21s international has signed fresh terms with PNE in eight months, having penned a new deal in June last year.

Browne’s latest contract runs until the summer of 2019 and the extension reflects how much North End rate a player they signed from Cork City Under-19s side in January 2014.

He has been a regular starter in the Preston side since September, although has missed the last two games with a hip flexor injury and will have his fitness monitored ahead of this weekend’s home clash with Queens Park Rangers.

Browne, 20, said: “I have signed a couple of new contracts in my short time here and I think it just shows my progression.

“The period last year where I wasn’t playing was a big part in my career, I had to keep myself focused and ready for any chance that has gone.

“This season it’s been easier for me being around the squad more.

“It has been good for me and I am looking forward to the rest of the season now.”

North End boss Simon Grayson said: “Alan is still a young man and he is progressing all the time.

“We are looking forward to continue working with him and seeing his career develop with Preston North End.”

Browne is due to join up with Republic of Ireland Under-21s in the international break for two friendlies and is likely to get the opportunity to train with Martin O’Neill’s senior squad in that time.
