May leaves PNE for Aberdeen

Preston North End striker Stevie May has joined Aberdeen.

The 24-year-old moves to Pittodrie for an undisclosed fee and has signed a four-year contract with the Dons.

May's time at Deepdale was blighted by a serious knee injury which kept him out of the game for more than a year.

In a Championship game against Fulham at Craven Cottage in November 2015, he tore three ligaments in his right knee - an injury which at one stage threatened to bring his career to an end.

He returned to first-team action for North End earlier this year and his first start back in April saw him score against Rotherham United.

Aberdeen first showed an interest in May in January, attempting to take him on loan.

Earlier in the summer, they made a bid for him but North End wanted to run the rule over him during pre-season and offer him a route into their first-team plans.

The appointment of Alex Neil also seemed to strengthen the case to keep him at Deepdale, May having done well under his management during a loan spell at Hamilton Academical.

But when Aberdeen returned with a new bid recently, Preston decided to give the front man the chance to return to Scotland.

The move reunites May with Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes who gave him his first-team debut as a teenager at St Johnstone.

May told Aberdeen's official website: "The manager has made no secret about trying to get me in the past, which is flattering, and it's good to finally get the deal done which I think is right for both parties and I just can't wait to get started."
