It was an impressive display from Alex Neil's men against a Coasters side who reached the National League play-offs last season.

Paul Huntington celebrated his new contract signed during the week by heading North End in front.

Callum Robinson struck twice with shots from the edge of the box before PNE changed their full team after an hour.

Sean Maguire helped himself to two goals to follow-up the hat-trick he got at Bamber Bridge the week before, with Andrew Hughes rounding-off the visitors' scoring.

The home side pulled a goal back late on, one of their trialists netting from the penalty spot.

It was a good work-out in the sun for North End who now head to Ireland for a training camp.

The early skirmishes saw the home side see a shot blocked in the PNE box while at the other end, Daryl Horgan chanced his arm with a shot from 20 yards which just cleared the bar.

Backed by a very strong following in the away end, North End took the lead in the 20th.

Josh Harrop delivered a corner from the left towards the near post, Huntington getting across his marker to met it and steer a header across the keeper into the far corner.

There followed a few chances to increase the advantage, Burke seeing a low shot saved by Coasters keeper Jay Lynch.

In the 24th minute, Horgan get away down the right-wing and put over a looping cross which Louis Moult met with a header down into the ground - as it bounced up and towards goal, Lynch stretched out a glove to tip it over the bar.

The resulting corner from Harrop found Moult at the far post, his header parried by Lynch.

When the ball was cleared to the edge of the box, Burke had a low shot which the keeper was again equal to.

The hosts went close to an equaliser when Chris Maxwell punched a cross away.

It fell to former PNE midfielder Ryan Croasdale, his shot from the left side of the six-yard box blocked by the sliding Darnell Fisher.

Just past the half hour Horgan's pass released Moult down the left channel, the striker getting into the box and squaring a pass to the unmarked Robinson.

But with just the keeper to beat, Robinson tried to be too exact with the finish and Lynch managed to block.

Robinson made up for that missed opportunity two minutes later though, finding the bottom corner of the net with a crisp first-time shot from the edge of the box.

Playing on the left side of PNE's attack, Robinson got through on goal again in the 35th minute but couldn't beat Lynch this time.

Five minutes before half-time, Fylde's Danny Rowe drove a free-kick from 25 yards inches over the bar.

The impressive Burke saw a shot blocked in the six-yard box by Neill Byrne just after half-time, then the Irishman's shot on the turn from Horgan's cross was saved by Lynch.

Only the woodwork denied Burke in the 57th minute, his left-foot shot from 15 yards curling beyond Lynch but coming back off the top of the far post.

Two goals in four minutes, either side of a bunch of substitutions, saw Preston put the game well beyond their hosts.

Robinson rifled home his second of the game to make it 3-0 with an hour played, his shot from the edge of the box giving Lynch no chance.

North End changed all 11 players at that stage and Maguire scored with his first touch for the visitors' fourth goal in the 64th minute.

Maguire found space just inside the AFC Fylde box, side-stepped a challenge, before drilling a right-foot shot across the keeper into the far corner.

The Republic of Ireland frontman struck the base of the post with a shot from Billy Bodin's knock down, before netting again in the 71st minute.

Alan Browne played a through ball behind the home defence which Maguire sprang the offside trap to meet .

Through on goal he took the ball into the box, waited until substitute keeper Russ Griffiths committed, before slipping the ball past him into the net.

Summer signing Hughes made it 6-0 with 10 minutes left, finding the net at the second attempt after his first shot from the corner of the six-yard box had been blocked.
