And the announcement of his re-signing follows the news that defender Lewis Baines has also committed his future to the club.

Urwin has been one of the club’s most consistent performers over the past few years after arriving initially on loan from Fleetwood Town in 2017.

Very much a cult hero among the supporters, the 27-year-old wrote himself in club folklore in 2019 when his penalty-saving heroics helped the club win promotion to the National League.

This season he was an integral part of the team which enjoyed a memorable run to the FA Cup fourth round before losing to Premier League Wolves 1-0 at Victory Park.

He has played 149 games and kept 49 clean sheets across two loan spells and his current permanent stint with the club

Urwin said: “I’m delighted to be signed up for another year. I’ve been at Victory Park for a number of seasons and enjoyed a huge amount of success and made many memories. Here’s hoping we can add a few more during the coming season.”

Boss Jamie Vermiglio said: “I’ve said this many times before about Matty – you simply don’t get any better a goalie at this level.

“His importance to the team cannot be understated and we’re absolutely delighted to have him on board for fifth season.”

The FA Cup run also saw Baines feature prominently.

Another whom arrived on loan from Fleetwood Town initially, Baines has had to bide his time at Victory Park before making the left-back /wing-back role his own in recent times.

Not one for stealing the headlines, Baines, pictured, enjoyed some exposure on a national scale when he unexpectedly popped up with the winning goal against Peterborough United in the second round of the FA Cup at London Road.

Entering his third full campaign with the Magpies after an initial loan spell in 2018, the 22-year-old has made 68 appearances in the black and white stripes.

Baines said: “I’m really looking forward to another season at Victory Park. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club so far and hopefully we’ll be able to have another successful season.”

Vermiglio said: “Bainesy’s another very important member of our squad who’ll continue to get better.

“He’s got a huge amount of experience despite his young age, put in some really strong performances last season and gives us great options across the backline.”
