Magpies looking for second win in a week over derby rivals AFC Fylde

Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio will not be expecting an easy ride when his team travel to Mill Farm to take on derby rivals AFC Fylde tomorrow.

The Magpies head into the contest fresh from beating the Coasters 3-1 last weekend at Victory Park.

Sandwiched in between the two meetings, Vermiglio’s men collected a 2-1 win away at Chester to go nine games unbeaten in the league.

That run has seen them rise to ninth in the National League North table – just a point outside the play-off zone.

Vermiglio admits his men – who face Championship outfit Derby County in the third round of the FA Cup later this month – are full of confidence at the moment.

But he knows Fylde – who are in sixth spot in the table, level on pints with third placed Boston United – will be gunning for revenge after suffering defeat in the first match.

The Coasters could count themselves unfortunate to leave Victory Park with nothing to show for their efforts and will be slightly fresher than the Magpies after their game against Southport on Monday was postponed due to a Covid-19 incident within the Sandgrounders’ squad.

“We know a lot about Fylde,” said Vermiglio. “They are an excellent football team.

“They are one of the best sides in the league and they caused us a lot of problems at home the other day.

“It’s going to be even more difficult at their place, they move the ball around a lot.

“We’ll re-watch that game again and then prepare for the game with good setplays, good organisation.

“But the things which has been winning us games is not good setplays or good organisation, it’s a real stubbornness and character.

“It’s about the boys, every single one of them, standing up and being counted.”
