Makinson came in at number 10 and was supported by number nine Jacob Wright and unbeaten last man Will Jacques as he smashed 32 to pull Leyland up to a defendable total of 126.

The captain, who has missed the last few games also picked up four wickets for 34 as Leyland skittled Chorley for 94 to retain their grip at the top of the Northern Premier Cricket League Divison One table.

Makinson said: “We wenecksre struggling for a long time and we were in a lot of trouble.

“I thought they were going to beat us right up until that last wicket partnership.

“Our opener Chris Parkinson made 30, Will Jacques and Jacob Wright did well to support me at the end of the innings.

““If we had been bowled out for less than 100 we would have been in real trouble.

“But instead we made it to 126 and we went into the field quite confident knowing the wicket.

“Adding runs in the lower orders has been one of our strengths. At times the tail has needed to add runs and it was my turn.”

Young all rounder Ross Bretherton picked up three wickets for 11 runs and Makinson praised him.

Second-placed Blackpool are seven points behind Leyland and Makinson is eyeing another victory when the club host Kendal on Saturday.

He said: “Ross has been a revelation he is a good young all rounder and he is continuing to do well.

“On paper Kendal are a good side. They have been paying quite a few players.

“I thought they would be doing better than they are but I still expect them to be in the top five at the end of the season.”
