With fans banned from grounds and entire tournaments cancelled, it’s been a 12 months to forget, but assuming that things can work their back towards some kind of normality in 2021, it looks as if the new year will be jam-packed with action.
We’ve gathered up all of the key dates you’ll need to keep an eye out for – from the January transfer window to the European Championship final – below:
When is the January transfer window?
For teams in the Premier League and EFL, the January will be open from January 1st until February 2nd.
In other parts of Europe, those dates are slightly different.
While the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 windows will also open on January 2nd, La Liga and Serie A will begin their trading on January 4th.
When is the Carabao Cup final?
The League Cup is generally the first piece of major silverware to be handed out in England every season, and 2021 will be no different.
The final will be played on February 28th.
When is the FA Cup final?
Next year’s FA Cup is set to be played on May 15th.
When is the final day of the Premier League?
The last round of top flight fixtures will be played at 4pm on May 23rd.
When is the final day of the EFL?
The last day of the Football League will be either May 8th or 9th.
When will the EFL play-off finals be played?
All play-off finals will be played on the weekend of May 29th.
When is the Champions League final?
Europe’s elite competition will conclude on May 29th in Istanbul, Turkey.
What are the key dates for the European Championships?
The delayed tournament will kick off on Friday June 11th, with Turkey taking on Italy.
England’s group stage begins with a clash against Croatia on June 13th. The Three Lions will also play Scotland on June 18th and the Czech Republic on June 22nd.
The final of the tournament will be contested at Wembley on July 11th.
When do the Olympic Football tournaments take place?
Both the men’s and women’s competitions begin on July 21st and conclude on August 7th.
Great Britain will have a team competing in the women’s tournament.
